Dear KAREN,
If there was ever a time when birds needed the support of the people who care about them—people like you, KAREN—it's right now. And there's no better opportunity to help than today, for Giving Tuesday, a day that's all about our power to come together and protect what matters most.
We're calling on 350 committed bird lovers to join our flock this Giving Tuesday and help meet this giving challenge. Can we count on you?
Start your monthly gift today: you'll provide support birds can depend on, today and tomorrow, while helping secure an additional $100,000 for their protection. In just a few days this summer, Hurricane Ida showcased the barrage of threats facing birds, from extreme weather to the climate change that's fueling it, from habitat destruction to human made disasters like oil spills. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's satellites detected at least 55 oil spills in the Gulf, including one near a fragile nature reserve.
It left the Gulf Coast with damage that may take years to recover—and birds floundering in its wake.
But while Hurricane Ida was a historic event, it was no fluke. These dangers are all interconnected: Oil spills can't happen without oil development. Drilling for oil is accelerating climate change. Climate change is driving ever more severe storms. And those storms, like Ida, cause more oil spills that are deadly for birds.
It all creates a perfect storm that threatens the birds we love.
KAREN, we need to change course—and with your steadfast support, we can. With the combined might of the Audubon community, we can shift away from fossil fuels and tackle the climate challenge, support strong policies that protect birds and their habitats, and restore and preserve the places birds need.
In the spirit of Giving Tuesday, will you please help?
Make a dependable monthly gift today and help power Audubon's best efforts on behalf of birds. And please don't delay: this $100,000 giving challenge ends when Giving Tuesday does, at midnight tonight, so don't miss this chance to make your support go even further for the birds you love.
Sincerely,
The National Audubon Society
