Dear KAREN,
This summer's heatwave in Seattle brought about heartbreaking scenes. To escape a scorching rooftop, over 100 juvenile Caspian Terns fled their nests and fell to their deaths—victims of extreme weather driven by climate change.
Birds can't protect themselves in the face of dangers like these. But they have you and Audubon, and together we're their best defense.
Your monthly gift gives them a safer, more hopeful future. A special giving challenge is now in effect, which means that when you donate for Giving Tuesday, before midnight tomorrow, you can help unlock an additional $100,000 in much-needed funding. We heard words like "unprecedented" used to describe that deadly heatwave and its horrific effects on birds. But with climate change accelerating even faster than we previously thought, heatwaves like this will become more and more common—while the worst effects of climate change will get even more extreme.
Nor is heat the only threat. Climate change is also driving severe drought in the western U.S., which in turn is allowing wildfires to run rampant. Combine that with stronger storms, habitat destruction, shifting temperatures, and habitats under stress,
and we're looking at a full-blown crisis—one that threatens two-thirds of North America's birds with extinction. But birds have a reason for hope, and KAREN, that hope is you. By
making a steady monthly gift, you'll provide support Audubon can rely on, today and tomorrow, to power our most crucial efforts on behalf of birds.
We know what it takes to protect birds from climate change: We'll push for a bold shift to clean energy, cut carbon emissions, and protect the resilient landscapes that act as a key climate buffer. With you at our side, KAREN, we'll do all that and more—protecting birds and their habitats as we've done for more than a century.
But we depend on your support, and birds can't wait. That's why we're asking you to
join us early with your gift for Giving Tuesday and be one of the 389 dedicated monthly donors we need now. You'll help secure an extra $100,000 on birds' behalf—and you'll join us as our partner in all we do to support their survival.
This giving challenge ends at midnight tomorrow, so don't miss your chance to go above and beyond to protect the birds you love.
Sincerely,
The National Audubon Society
