Dear KAREN,

Giving Tuesday is almost over, and we've been awed and gratified by the way this community has shown up for birds today. But with just hours left to go, we still need just 15 more monthly donors to secure this giving challenge, our biggest of the year. Can you please help?

Start your monthly gift now, before midnight tonight, while you'll not only provide support birds can depend on today and tomorrow, but also help earn an additional $100,000 in critical funding.

Birds are facing a barrage of threats like none before, as Hurricane Ida showed us with appalling clarity when it ripped through the Gulf of Mexico this August. In its immediate aftermath, it left behind dozens of oil spills, each one a lethal threat to birds, and damaged ecosystems that may take years to recover.

But beyond that, it warned of what we could face in the future as the climate continues to change: more intense storms. More sudden disasters as systems come under pressure. And more of the birds we love lost—some beyond recovering, as two-thirds of our bird species are at risk of climate extinction.

It will take a huge effort to steer us toward a safer future for birds—a future of safe habitats, clean water, and a stable climate. But with your steadfast support, KAREN, we can do it. We depend on caring friends like you to power our expert conservation work. Together, we can protect the birds we love and the places they need. There's not much time to act, so we're asking you today:

Before Giving Tuesday ends, will you seize this opportunity to help? Make a dependable monthly gift before midnight tonight, while you can help unlock this $100,000 challenge. It's going to take all of us working together to give birds their most hopeful future, so please help as generously as you can today.

Sincerely,

The National Audubon Society

Dear KAREN,

Every nature lover knows the danger of oil spills. For birds like the Brown Pelican, even a few drops of oil can be disastrous. What you might not know is that oil spills are already a common occurrence—and that worse may lie ahead as the climate crisis continues.

This is a warning call for all of us who care for birds, and now is our opportunity to choose a better course. Are you in? This Giving Tuesday challenge ends in just a few hours, at midnight tonight, so please don't wait: Start your monthly gift today, while you can help unlock $100,000 in additional critical support for birds.

Climate change is directly threatening the survival of two-thirds of all North American bird species, altering their habitats too quickly for them to adapt and find the food, water, and safe breeding grounds they need.

But a changing climate can also trigger more sudden disasters—a truth we watched play out across the Gulf Coast this past summer: a horrifying 55 spills were detected in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida. As storms ramp up, growing more severe, all sorts of systems will fail, and vulnerable birds will pay an appalling price.

KAREN, these are complicated threats. But we have solutions.

We need to shift away from fossil fuels to clean energy, which would mean fewer oil spills while slowing climate change.

We need to hold industries accountable for keeping birds safe, and to champion strong conservation policies for birds' protection.

And we need to double down on our on-the-ground conservation to protect and restore the places birds need.

With more than 100 years of experience, Audubon is ready to take on this challenge and give birds the future they deserve, but we can't do it without you. Please be one of the 41 bird lovers we need right away to meet this $100,000 challenge. Hurry—only hours are left until the midnight deadline.

Sincerely,

The National Audubon Society

Dear KAREN,

The challenges facing birds today are massive. But they're not insurmountable. From oil spills to climate change to habitat loss, you have the power to help give birds a better future with the actions you take today.

There's no better time to rally to birds' defense than Giving Tuesday, a time for celebrating our collective power to protect the things we care about. Join your fellow bird lovers and start a monthly gift today.

We still need 75 more donors to pitch in before midnight tonight, when your chance to unlock an additional $100,000 gift ends. We hope you'll be one of them.

In the span of a few short days this past August, Hurricane Ida gave us an alarming demonstration of many ways birds are threatened, triggering dozens of oil spills and wreaking havoc on essential habitats. Disasters like this one are already far too common, and with climate change on the rise, fueling stronger storms, they'll become more common still. At a time when we've already lost 3 billion birds in the past half-century, we can't afford to let that happen.

But if we act boldly and with urgency, we can make critical progress for birds and the places they need. We've done it before in our 100-year history, and though today's challenges are greater than ever, we can do it again with you by our side.

Audubon will keep working to restore and preserve vital landscapes like the Gulf Coast. We'll go above and beyond to make industries take precautions and pay for harm to birds. We'll keep fiercely defending key conservation laws and policies. And we'll fight for a transformational shift towards climate resilience, which will help more birds survive the biggest crisis of our times.

Your monthly gift will help power Audubon's full range of conservation work, all of which is inspired by and grounded in science. It's work that holds the promise of a safer future for birds—but we can only achieve it through your support.

Please start a monthly gift today and be one of the 75 bird lovers we need to secure an extra $100,000 for birds. This giving challenge ends when Giving Tuesday does, at midnight tonight, so please don't wait! Do your best for birds today.

Sincerely,

The National Audubon Society
