The Golden-winged Warbler currently has one of the smallest populations of any songbird not listed as endangered. This beloved species—alongside 69 other birds—is at a crisis "Tipping Point'', having already lost at least half of its population in the last 50 years and is on track to lose another 50% in the coming decades.
Dear KAREN, "Urgent action is needed to help these birds before they become endangered." That was the dire warning in the latest State of the Birds report, which found that more than half of U.S. bird species are in decline. And of those, 70 species—including the beloved Golden-winged Warbler—are now at a "Tipping Point." If we fail to take immediate climate action, these birds, who have already lost at least half of their populations in the last 50 years, are on track to lose another 50% in the coming decades. Birds can't ask for your help, so we're asking for them: Will you start your annual donation ahead of Earth Day while your first gift will be matched, up to $75,000?
Right now, the impacts of climate change are escalating faster than predicted. But we are not without hope: With the support of bird lovers like you, our staff, chapters, and partners work on the ground to protect and restore vital habitats and natural spaces and in state and national legislatures to strengthen conservation laws. Together, we're also advocating to pass: - The Migratory Birds of the Americas Conservation Enhancements Act, just recently passed in the U. S. House of Representatives, would expand available funding to protect habitats across the Western Hemisphere.
- The Bird-Safe Buildings Act, a common-sense solution to help birds avoid collisions with buildings by promoting bird-friendly materials and design features at federal buildings.
- The Recovering America's Wildlife Act, which will ramp up support for declining species and conserve them before they become endangered.
