The Audubon Photography Awards Top 100
This year, we had more than 2,200 individuals from across the United States and Canada submit almost 9,000 photographs and videos to the 14th annual Audubon Photography Awards. With so many exceptional shots to choose from, we couldn't stop at the winner's announcement. So, we've selected 100 additional photos, displayed in no particular order, celebrating the birds, the photographers, and the story behind each shot.

Scroll through 100 of this year's most spectacular, surprising, and artistic avian photographs.

The Golden Standard of Shorebird Migration
Summer may be scorching, but that won't stop early fall migrants like the American Golden-Plover (Chorlo Dorado Americano en español)! Over the period from late July through November, from the Boreal Forest alone, three to five billion birds like the American Golden-Plover pass over the Canada-U.S. border.

Hitting the beach sometime soon? You might catch these rarities! During fall migration, American Golden-Plovers are seen mostly along the Atlantic Coast, especially after storms with northeast winds, as they make their multi-day, non-stop flight from Canada to South America.

The American Golden-Plover makes one of the longest migratory journeys of any shorebird. But as impressive as their journeys are, covering all that distance leaves them vulnerable to a wide range of ecosystem impacts, many of which can be traced back to climate change.

In a matter of weeks, shorebird migration will be in full swing across the United States, providing a dazzling array of identification challenges for bird-lovers across the country. Catch the American Golden-Plover and other shorebirds as they embark on their fall migration journeys with the Bird Migration Explorer
