This very moment, we're seeing some of the driest stretches on record—growing in severity as global temperatures rise. Droughts, heatwaves, and other extreme weather events are becoming more common and intense, pushing birds to their physiological limits. Birds like the Sandhill Crane, who depend on the Platte River ecosystem during their yearly migration, are particularly vulnerable to the effects of extreme drought—because the habitats they rely on are literally drying up.
Drought is a symptom of a larger climate issue—3 billion birds have vanished in less than a single human lifetime. But with your dependable support, we'll fight back with all our might. Audubon will keep defending the birds you love and the places they need through a powerful combination of science, advocacy, education, and on-the-ground conservation. But we can't do it alone.
