Historic Win: Equitable Outdoor Access is Now Law in California
We did it! Governor Gavin Newsom signed the Equitable Outdoor Access Act (AB 30) into law, a historic milestone toward achieving equitable opportunities for safe and affordable access to nature for all Californians.

Tricolored Blackbird
155,000 Tricolored Blackbirds Saved in 2022
Last spring, we worked with landowners and community partners to save 155,000 Tricolored Blackbirds in 13 colonies that were nesting on agricultural fields. The largest colony we found was estimated to host 30,000 birds.

Wetlands
Emerging Oasis for Birds at the Salton Sea
An oasis of wetlands are forming in the dry lakebed of the Salton Sea. Our team is working to expand habitat to support 400 species of migrating birds and 65 species of waterbirds in Southern California.

The Audubon Center at Debs Park co-hosted Pachanga de las Americas with Latino Outdoors. Watch speakers present "Yo Cuento: Mapping Migraciones y Más" and hear a personal migration story about how birds and people are connected through geography and culture.

Bird Story Hour
Do you love bird stories? Audubon members are regaling each other with their favorite avian adventures in this virtual bi-monthly gathering. A recent episode featured the theme "The Birds Who Saved My Life" with special guest storyteller Virginia Rose, co-founder of Birdability.

Buena Vista Lagoon
Bringing Buena Vista Lagoon and Mission Bay Back to Life
We are restoring Buena Vista Lagoon and Mission Bay in the San Diego region in partnership with the Buena Vista and San Diego Audubon Chapters. These lagoons provide habitat for 144 bird species and 56 plant species, while buffering our coasts from sea level rise and sequestering large amounts of carbon.
