Dear KAREN,
Stretching 500 miles across Southeast Alaska, the Tongass National Forest is part of the largest intact temperate rainforest on the planet. Nearly half its land is protected by the Roadless Rule, forming a pristine refuge for a vast array of birds, fish, and other wildlife.
Pristine—but contested, because for years, the logging industry has fought against those protections, determined to exploit the Tongass's crucial wildlife habitats. And when the last administration rolled them back, it demonstrated how easily some safeguards can be subverted, putting birds at desperate risk.
Our country's important habitats deserve stronger, enduring protections—and so do the birds they sustain.
Start your monthly gift to protect places birds need, like the Tongass, and be one of the 29 new monthly donors we need today to secure an additional $10,000 in this final challenge of our Giving Tuesday week.
We fought to regain the safety the Roadless Rule provides. And today the birds of the Tongass are shielded by it once more.
But we can't relax our vigilance. We've seen what can happen. We must make sure the places that sustain birds stay protected forever—especially now, with 3 billion birds vanished in just 50 years.
Thanks to friends like you, we've had the strength to hold off threats to places like the Tongass, the Arctic Refuge, and vast stretches of the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska. With more than 100 years of conservation expertise, and wins like these to show for it, Audubon is still—and always—in the fight to keep key habitats intact. With your monthly gift, you make it possible to maintain this long-term commitment to preserve important landscapes and keep them safe for birds.
So please step up right away for birds like the Snowy Owl.
Make a monthly gift and add your steadfast support. We still need 29 monthly donors to join us before midnight tonight to secure this $10,000 giving challenge. Will you help as much as you can before time runs out?
Sincerely,
The National Audubon Society
