Don't miss this chance to unlock $10,000 for birds
NAME: KAREN SHARP SUSTAINER STATUS: Unconfirmed GIVING CHALLENGE DEADLINE: Midnight | | 61 new monthly donors needed to unlock $10,000 | | | | Dear KAREN, On Alaska's North Slope lies Teshekpuk Lake, a safe haven and breeding site for millions of migrating shorebirds. It also happens to be situated within the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska—a fact that could mean disaster for the birds that depend on the lake. The area around the lake is currently off-limits to drilling, but those protections are precarious: They've been threatened as recently as just last year. Habitats like these are crucial for birds and it's up to us to defend them. Start a monthly gift to protect the places birds need, and be one of the 61 donors to help unlock today's special $10,000 giving challenge. Teshekpuk Lake is just one of many vital habitats in the Arctic that have been at risk. Kasegaluk Lagoon, Colville River, and the coastal plain of the Arctic Refuge, are essential to birds, frequently as safe nesting grounds—yet each has seen attempts to develop them for oil and gas resources. And whether that entails drilling, mining, logging, or building roads, development in these areas would lay waste to important habitats—with devastating consequences for birds like the Snowy Owl. Now is the time to put in place stronger and more enduring protections for the places birds need. With your steadfast support, we'll hold the Biden Administration accountable to their promises to protect wildlife and the natural world—and hold off any future efforts that put birds in danger. With powerful advocacy that's grounded in science, backed by our million-plus members, we'll keep our country's important bird habitats safe for birds, not just for now, but forever. We still need 61 more monthly donors to rise to today's giving challenge, so please don't wait: Make your monthly gift before midnight tonight, and together, we'll secure a safer future for birds. Sincerely, The National Audubon Society | | | | |
