Here in California, we're celebrating some big news: Andrea Jones has been officially named Vice President, California! If you've spent time in the Audubon network, you've probably crossed paths with Andrea's incredible work. Since joining Audubon California in 2006, she's helped shape collaborative conservation plans at Owens Lake (now a model for balancing water, communities, and bird habitat), led a multi-million-dollar restoration project in San Francisco Bay that informed policy changes for sea level rise, and partnered with chapters and coastal communities to launch Sharing Our Shores, a statewide effort to protect the threatened Western Snowy Plover. "Our team in California is creating incredible impact for birds and communities across the state and I'm honored to support their efforts," said Jones. "As the California office approaches its 30th anniversary in 2026, I look forward to building on its legacy of powerful conservation and envisioning new paths to reduce the decline of North America's birds through protecting and enhancing habitats, addressing the impacts of climate change, and engaging Audubon chapters and communities to expand our work. I'm fortunate to have worked in every corner of this beautiful state and I'm thrilled to leverage my deep knowledge of our communities, our opportunities, and our birds in this important role." Before making California her home, Andrea led Coastal Waterbird and Grassland Bird Programs at Mass Audubon and completed her Master of Science at the University of Massachusetts, where she studied Grasshopper Sparrows. That scientist's lens continues to shape her approach today, grounding bold ideas in strong science and collaborative partnerships on the ground. California is one of the most important places for birds in North America, with over 600 species noted in the state and an incredible diversity of habitats. Under Andrea's leadership, we will continue advancing innovative, collaborative work to build a more resilient future for birds and people not only across the state, but all along the Pacific Flyway and the western hemisphere. We're excited for this next chapter—and grateful to have Andrea leading the way. Explore the full press release here. | | | | |
