KAREN, At one point, the Great Lakes region was home to anywhere from 500 to 800 nesting pairs of Piping Plovers. But by 1990, that number dwindled to just about a dozen pairs. Now, the Piping Plover is endangered or threatened across every corner of its range—and if climate change continues unchecked, a staggering 87% of this bird’s current breeding range could be lost. Thanks to kind friends like you, we’re doing all we can to bring birds back. For birds like the Piping Plover, decades of habitat loss and degradation have resulted in a worrying decline.
