Learn How to Draw the Painted Bunting
Dear KAREN,

The Painted Bunting has breathtaking rainbow-colored plumage. Celebrate Pride month with queer birder and artist Fiona Gillogly as she demonstrates how to draw and paint a Painted Bunting.

In this one-hour class, learn how to sketch the Painted Bunting, use shade to enhance a drawing, and play with color. All you need is a pencil, paper, colored pencils, or watercolors. Beginners welcome!

Fiona is an emerging artist with a passion for birds and nature journaling. She has created more than 2,000 nature journal pages since 2016. At the age of 18, she has published essays and illustrations in the ABA's Birding magazineChildren & Nature Network's Finding Nature News Blog, and NatureJournalingWeek.com. Meet Fiona Gillogly

Born and raised in Northern California, Fiona is an 18-year-old queer birder, nature journaler, artist, naturalist, writer, actor, musician, composer, and advocate for nature. She studied nature journaling with acclaimed artist and author, John Muir Laws. A six-time recipient of the Central Valley Bird Club Youth Scholarship, Fiona volunteers her time with research and conservation including bird surveys, nest box monitoring, bird banding, and bird walks. She has taught classes and given talks for many organizations, including the Exploratorium in San Francisco, Environment for the Americas/World Migratory Bird Day, San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory, Richardson Bay Audubon, Point Reyes Birding Festival, and the Central Valley Bird Symposium.
