Become a lifeline for Red Knots and all shorebirds

Only a few hours left to amplify your impact
Dear KAREN,

We wanted to make sure you saw the message below—there's been a steep decline in Red Knot populations on the Atlantic Coast over the last 20 years, and last year was the biggest decline since animal counts began almost 40 years ago.

We urgently need your help to stay in the fight for their future. Will you become a lifeline for the Red Knot? We're looking for 18 supporters to start a monthly gift right away—and when you join us, you'll help unlock an additional $5,000 to protect the birds we love.

18 donors needed now to unlock $5,000
Dear KAREN,

Pull one thread of a habitat's fragile tapestry hard enough, and the whole thing could unravel. For the little Red Knot, that's not a cautionary tale. It's already happening.

The Red Knot's population is shrinking rapidly as its food supply of horseshoe crab eggs diminishes, with over 1 million Red Knot losses in the past 50 years. This is an emergency. And your gift is needed urgently to turn the tide for these spectacular shorebirds. We're looking for 18 supporters to start a monthly gift right away—and thanks to a generous group of donors, when you make a gift today you'll help unlock an additional $5,000 to protect the birds we love.

Red Knots travel an impressive 19,000 miles each year, often flying for six to eight days nonstop. But as horseshoe crabs have been overharvested, there's been fewer and fewer eggs for migrating Red Knots to fuel up on. The birds' reliance on crucial habitat areas makes them particularly vulnerable to loss or disruption of habitat in these zones.

These are birds at risk—but they're also birds we can help. Guided by science and informed by more than a century of experience, Audubon is working to protect Red Knots through habitat protection and restoration, scientific analysis, conservation policies, and coastal stewardship.

But important work like this is only possible because of bird lovers like you. When you make a monthly gift today, your committed support can give them a better future.

And your gift won't just protect Red Knots. The threat of climate extinction looms large for so many shorebirds. With other threats on the horizon, including coastal habitat loss and degradation, increasing development, and human disturbance—it's urgent we act now to protect all vulnerable shorebirds from extinction.

Let's reconstruct the shorebirds' tapestry together: retying the knot between vulnerable birds and the ecosystems they depend on. Make a gift right away to sustain our best conservation work for the birds that need it most: 18 monthly donors are needed NOW to unlock $5,000. Please don't wait to help build a brighter future for the birds you love.

Sincerely,

National Audubon Society
