How to Find a Rainbow Without the Rain

One of the most colorful songbirds in North America, the Painted Bunting (Colorín sietecolores en español) is a sight for sore eyes. It's a coveted bird that people travel from far and wide to see, seeking them out like the eye candy that they are. Luckily, these vividly-colored birds have a penchant for visiting bird feeders and have bright, warbling songs to help you know when they're nearby.   Painted Buntings typically spend their summer breeding months in the Southeastern and south-central United States and are known to winter in Central America, Mexico, Southern Florida, and some places in the Caribbean. Because Painted Buntings have complex migration patterns and over winter in both Central America and the Caribbean, researchers hope that by pinning down where buntings go in winter, they can target further monitoring and conservation efforts in strategic locations.
