A devastating situation made even more dire

Just hours left to help unlock $5,000 for the birds we love
Dear KAREN,

1,300,000. That's how many acres of sagebrush habitat—an area the size of Delaware—is lost to wildfires annually, according to a recent report. For birds like the Gunnison Sage-Grouse, whose available habitat has already shrunk by a staggering 90 percent since the 1900s, this loss creates an even more dire situation.

Dear KAREN,

Acre by acre, summer by summer, we are losing the sagebrush steppe ecosystem—the very habitat that already-imperiled birds like the Gunnison Sage-Grouse depend on for survival. If these wildfires continue to rage larger, hotter, and more frequent due to a rapidly changing climate and the spread of invasive grasses, this one-of-a-kind bird and others could find themselves in an even more dire situation.

That's why we're turning to dedicated bird lovers like you today. Will you be one of the 23 new monthly donors we're counting on to join us while, thanks to a group of generous donors, your gift will help unlock an additional $5,000 to safeguard birds and their habitats?

Today's threats make Audubon's decades-long advocacy on behalf of birds like the Gunnison Sage-Grouse even more critical. Right now, we're working with Congress to ensure adequate funding is available for effective on-the-ground action in relevant states. We're also actively involved in The Bureau of Land Management's planning effort to improve the management of critical habitats.

But there's so much more we can do to ensure birds have a brighter future. This code-red emergency won't be solved overnight, and it can't be solved without caring support from people like you. Please take action for birds like the Gunnison Sage-Grouse. Start a monthly gift today and help unlock an additional $5,000 for birds in need.

Sincerely,

National Audubon Society
