73 donors needed to unlock $15,000
NAME: KAREN SHARP SUSTAINER STATUS: Unconfirmed GIVING CHALLENGE DEADLINE: MIDNIGHT TOMORROW | | 73 donors needed to unlock $15,000 | | | | Dear KAREN, Migratory and wetland-dependent bird species have already lost over 90 percent of California's natural wetlands—and now they're suffering through the worst "megadrought" in 1,200 years. Yet there is hope for birds because Audubon has you—and together we have the power to help them survive and thrive. As we approach World Water Day, we're counting on 73 friends like you to act now and start a monthly gift to sustain our best work for birds. Until midnight tomorrow, your gift will help unlock $15,000 more for birds in need. California is just one example of a devastating trend. In the face of record drought and shrinking wetlands and watery habitats, migratory birds are weakening, losing their way, or even dying because their habitual stopovers no longer offer ready access to safe, clean water. These and other effects of climate change pose an extreme threat to birds: Two-thirds of North American species are at risk of climate extinction. These problems won't be solved in a day. It'll take Audubon's century of expertise in science-based conservation and the steady, reliable support of this incredible community to ensure clean water and healthy habitats for birds. We've already made tremendous progress together, including: - Securing water for the drying Great Salt Lake—a first in Utah water rights history
- Restoring water flow in the Colorado River Delta, providing an oasis in the midst of the Sonoran Desert for birds and the people that live there
- Implementing sustainable on-the-ground habitat restoration projects to address habitat loss and degradation in places such as California's Central Valley and the Salton Sea
…and much more, not just in the arid West but everywhere Audubon works. Because of our members, we've accomplished all this—so we know we can do more. As we look toward World Water Day, we're looking to you. Please help us conserve, improve, and expand the natural spaces birds need. We need 73 additional supporters to start a monthly gift right away. When you act before midnight tomorrow, you'll help unlock an additional $15,000 for birds. So donate now before this giving challenge ends. Sincerely, The National Audubon Society | | | | |
