As you can see from the Wikipedia definition we get that information from tendons, joints, our eyes and our ears (vestibular system). We use all this to coordinate our movement and posture. Traditional strategies to improve this involve "balance exercises" such as standing on wobbly surfaces and/or standing on one leg.
This can be helpful for strengthening tendons, joints and working the little adjustments in the whole body to maintain uprightness.
BUT…. if internal alignment and awareness is off, then we are actually adding a whole lot of tension and stiffness to our body. For example, if our eyes and inner ears are sitting inside a tipped head, then our brain will be getting inaccurate signals.
The series in March will involve tapping into all the important places that monitor uprightness.
In Brain/Body Balance Series we will explore this from ankles to head, fine tuning our amazing proprioceptive abilities so that we feel more secure in our body while we move through our day.
