Immerse yourself in the magic of sage-grouse.
Dear KAREN, As spring turns to summer, we are leaving one of the most magical times in the West: sage-grouse mating season. Each spring across the sagebrush steppe, sage-grouse gather at mating grounds, called leks. There, males perform incredible courtship displays for onlooking females. Sadly, few people get to visit a lek. Most leks are in remote areas. They require you to get up before dawn and sit in the cold for hours. And the sage-grouse population is declining as their sagebrush habitat disappears. But you deserve to know the magic of sage-grouse. To share it with you, we created this new video. Experience what it's like to spend a morning with Greater Sage-Grouse in southern Wyoming from inside the photography blind of Audubon Rockies communications manager Evan Barrientos. Take a few minutes to immerse yourself in the wonder of sage-grouse and consider sharing it with others.
Greater Sage-Grouse lose 1.3 million acres of intact, functioning sagebrush habitat across the West every year. Right now, there's an important opportunity to help. Click here to learn more.
