We can unlock $30,000 for birds with your help.
We've been able to have back-to-back record-breaking nesting seasons in the Great Lakes region for the Piping Plover—all thanks to support from generous bird lovers like you. But they're only one of 389 birds on the brink—birds who are at increasing risk of extinction because of our warming planet. If we want to keep supporting these birds no matter what they face, we need you with us.
All birds on the brink are facing delicate and tenuous situations, but thanks to caring people like you, we advocate and work on their behalf. We're working across the Piping Plovers range to ensure these birds are protected and could one day no longer be endangered or threatened. Through research, education, monitoring, and protecting their nests, we helped accomplish a record-breaking breeding season last year. And 2023 looks to be even stronger, KAREN. A new survey of the Piping Plover's nesting region shows that 80 breeding pairs produced as many as 135 chicks across the Great Lakes this season.
Nearly 400 North American bird species are at increasing risk of climate extinction.
The Piping Plover is endangered in 13 states and nearly gone from the Great Lakes.
With 3 degrees of warming, the Piping Plover is at risk of losing 87% of its range.
