Blind Birders Bird-a-Thon: A First-of-Its-Kind Event

At the peak of spring migration, blind and low-vision birders across the country spent a day logging as many species as they could in the first-ever Blind Birders Bird-a-Thon.

From admiring the vintage video game-esque song of the Bobolink, to adding new species to their life lists, participants in the first-ever Blind Birders Bird-a-Thon declared the event a resounding success. Learn more about the event and the challenges that blind people can encounter when birding—and the deep joy they find in birds and the outdoors. July is Disability Pride Month, an annual observance which celebrates the disability community and this year, commemorates the 35th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act. What better time to uplift these voices?
