KAREN,

The Common Loon’s rich, mournful calls, heard by day or night, are characteristic sounds of early summer in the north woods. But sadly, these birds are struggling to find the clean, safe water they need to survive. And, like two-thirds of North American birds, this icon of the wild is at increasing risk of extinction due to the climate crisis. So as we mark World Water Day, we’re taking this time to reflect on how critical water is for birds and people alike—and reaffirm our commitment to the vital work of protecting it year-round.

With more than a century of conservation expertise under our wing, we know what it takes to protect the birds we love. And with your steadfast support we can. Start your annual donation before midnight tonight while, thanks to a group of generous donors, your first annual gift will be matched up to $5,000. Your annual gift will renew automatically each year, providing uninterrupted resources our teams can depend on year after year.
Give the gift of protection.
At a time when birds are at constant risk due to climate change, the stakes couldn’t be higher.

The birds you love are threatened:
  • Human actions have taken a heavy toll on birds that rely on water.
  • Climate change, water level fluctuations, and pollution remain serious threats to their survival.
  • In just one human lifetime, we’ve lost 3 billion birds.
Fortunately, our advocacy for birds is powerful and effective as we keep sustainable water management at the forefront of our work. Our solutions address both the causes and effects of climate change. While we’re fighting for sustainable water management and reduced carbon emissions, we’re also restoring, preserving, and expanding the places birds need—including crucial wetlands, rivers, and streams.

We couldn’t accomplish all this without people like you—people who care about birds and are ready to help. And with so much more to do, we need you now more than ever. Will you be the caring friend birds need this World Water Day? When you start your annual donation today, your first gift will be matched up to $5,000!

Sincerely,
