Dear KAREN,

The Rufous Hummingbird has suffered steep population declines—losing two-thirds of their populations in just 50 years. But sadly, they're far from alone: This neighborhood beauty is one of 70 species that are on track to lose another 50% in the same time frame if irresponsible land-use, habitat degradation, and other human-caused habitat loss continues unabated.

We're not going to sit by and let that happen—and we know you won't either. Will you start an annual donation ahead of Earth Day to give the birds the protection they need, not just today but tomorrow, too? Thanks to a group of generous donors your first gift will be matched, up to $5,000, for birds we love. Your gift will renew automatically each year, giving birds dependable protection they can rely on.

This Earth Day, birds are at a tipping point
More than half of U.S. bird species are in decline.
389 North American bird species are at increasing risk of climate extinction.
3 billion birds have vanished in less than a human lifetime.

Guided by research and grounded in our shared love of birds, we work every day for practical, effective solutions to the urgent and interconnected problems of biodiversity loss, habitat destruction and degradation, and climate change—just as we have for decades. And with the support of bird lovers like you, we're making an impact! Just last year, we helped get the most comprehensive climate-focused bill signed into law, helped secure record-breaking funding allocated for Everglades restoration, and more to protect birds and the places they need to survive.

It comes down to this: Where we work—and when you help—birds are better off. But our work is far from done. Please, start your annual recurring gift in honor of Earth Day while it will go twice as far for birds and the places they need.

Sincerely,

National Audubon Society
