Dear KAREN,

As we mark Earth Day today, we're taking time to reflect on how far we've come, and how far we have to go to protect birds and the places they need from the impacts of climate change. This code-red crisis is precipitating a steady decline across nearly every habitat, with half of all U.S. bird species experiencing population losses. 70 species are at a "Tipping Point"—birds that have lost 50% or more of their populations in the past 50 years and are on track to lose another half or more in the coming decades.

But because birds have been telling us that we must take action on climate—and because we've listened—we're already working to create a safer, more hopeful future for birds and for our planet. Yet there's more work to be done, and that's why we're asking you to do your best for birds like the Golden-winged Warbler and Rufous Hummingbird today, in honor of Earth Day. Start your annual donation before midnight tonight and your first gift will be matched, up to $10,000, for the birds we love. Your annual gift will renew automatically each year, providing uninterrupted resources our teams can depend on in their work year after year.

This Earth Day, birds are at a tipping point
More than half of U.S. bird species are in decline.
389 North American bird species are at increasing risk of climate extinction.
3 billion birds have vanished in less than a human lifetime.

Climate change poses an existential threat to people and birds alike. The latest report from the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change makes it clear: the clock is ticking.

But if we slash emissions, keep global temperatures down, and secure the space, clean air, and clean water that birds and people need to live and thrive, we can protect up to 76 percent of the species that are now threatened. Using our proven combination of committed advocacy, empowering education, and expert on-the-ground conservation, we act on behalf of birds—and together, our pioneering efforts leave birds better off everywhere we work.

But we depend on your support to make it all possible—and birds can't wait. That's why we're asking you to join us with your annual recurring gift for Earth Day. Thanks to a group of generous donors, your first gift will be matched, up to $10,000. Please don't wait! This special offer ends at midnight.

Sincerely,

National Audubon Society
